Not selling
What is my
practice worth?
Most owners ask this three to five years before they act. That is the right order. Here is what the conversation is, and what it is not.
- Cost
- Nothing
- Obligation
- None
- Documents
- None, until you want them
What you get
A range, and the reasons
it sits where it does.
A range, not a number
A single figure before anyone has seen the practice is a guess, and a guess that gets revised later is worse than no figure at all. You get a range, and the honest width of it.
Why the range is where it is
Production, hygiene, the lease, the team, and what the patient base has been doing for the last three years. Which of those is helping and which is holding the number down.
The three things that move it
Every practice has two or three levers that change the number more than everything else combined. Usually unbooked chair time, the recall list, and work that leaves the building. You hear which ones are yours.
What we would do in year one, if you asked
Not a pitch. A short list of what the group would change first if the practice joined it, so that the range comes with a picture of how it would be earned.
What we will not do
Three things, in writing.
Promise a figure before seeing the practice
See above. It is the fastest way to lose the trust the rest of the conversation runs on.
Pass your name to anyone
Not to a broker, not to a lender, not to another buyer. The call is between you and a dentist, and it stays there.
Call you back twice
One note after the call. If you want more, you write. Nobody from the group is going to keep you warm.
How it runs
Four steps, and three of them
are optional.
One call, twenty minutes
What you have built, roughly what it produces, and what you want next. Dr. Webster takes the call himself.
If you want, a look at three numbers
Annual production, hygiene production, and active patients. Enough to narrow the range without opening the books.
A one-page note back to you
The range, the reasons, and the three levers. Yours to keep, whatever you do next.
Nothing further unless you write
That is the whole process. If it turns into a sale years later, the dentists page is what happens then.
Ask
One call, and nothing
changes hands.
